1888年に Agricultural College of Utah として設立された、ユタ州唯一の連邦土地付与（land-grant）大学です。ユタ州北部 Cache Valley の街 Logan に位置し、ローガン渓谷の入口にあたる 600 エーカー超のキャンパスを構えています。
研究面で象徴的なのが大学傘下の Space Dynamics Laboratory（SDL）です。SDL はミサイル防衛局および米宇宙軍の University Affiliated Research Center（UARC）に指定されており、これまでに430を超える宇宙ミッションにハードウェア・ソフトウェアを供給してきた、大学運営としては米国で稀有なスケールの航空宇宙研究拠点です。土地付与大学らしく農学・自然資源・工学の基盤も厚く、2022年にはユタ州初の獣医学部（DVM プログラム）を立ち上げ、州内唯一の獣医師養成機関となりました。NCAA ディビジョン I の Aggies はマウンテンウェスト・カンファレンス所属で、2026年7月に Pac-12 への参加が予定されています。

ユタ州、愛称は「ビーハイブステート」。知られているものは5つの国立公園、スキーリゾート、モルモン教総本山。気候は半乾燥気候～砂漠気候（年間平均気温 8-14°C）。
