大学概要
タスマニア大学（UTAS）は1890年に設立されたオーストラリアで4番目に古い大学であり、タスマニア州唯一の大学として同州の教育・研究を一手に担っている。QS世界大学ランキング2025年版では世界307位にランクインしている。メインのサンディベイキャンパスはホバート市中心部からダーウェント川沿いに約5km南に位置し、マウントウェリントンを望む壮大な景観が広がる。最大の特徴は海洋・南極研究の分野で世界をリードしている点で、Australian Maritime CollegeやInstitute for Marine and Antarctic Studiesを擁し、南極研究においてオーストラリアの中心的拠点である。環境科学、地球科学の分野でも世界的に高い評価を受けている。タスマニア固有の生態系を活用した生物多様性研究も独自の強みである。留学生向けの奨学金としてTasmanian International Scholarshipがあり、授業料の最大50%が免除される。ホバートはオーストラリアで2番目に古い都市であり、MONAという世界的に有名な現代美術館や活気あるサラマンカマーケットで知られる文化的な街である。生活費はオーストラリア本土の主要都市より大幅に安い。海洋科学や南極研究に興味がある学生、自然に囲まれた環境で集中して学びたい学生にとって、UTASは唯一無二の選択肢といえる。
