大学の概要
1878年に主教アイザック・ヘルムートによって創設された、オンタリオ州ロンドンの州立総合大学です。看板は1949年設立のアイヴィー・ビジネススクールで、1〜2年次は理系でも音楽でも自由に学び、3年次からビジネスに進む「2+2」構造のHBA（経営学士）プログラムを取っています。授業は講義ではなく実在企業の事例を討議するケースメソッド中心で、在学中に何百本ものケースを扱う学部教育は北米でも限られています。ビジネス志望者は入学時点でアイヴィーへの優先枠（AEO）を申請する経路があるため、出願条件と選考時期を早めに押さえておく必要があります。
医学・歯学のシューリック校、ドン・ライト音楽学部などを含む12の学部を擁する研究大学でもあり、大学が世界初の三次元風洞試験施設と説明する WindEEE ドームのように、他大学にない実験設備を持つ研究拠点も抱えています。世界大学ランキングではカナダ国内の上位グループに位置し、卒業生は160か国に広がります。
キャンパスはトロントから西へ車で約2時間の学生都市ロンドンにあり、テムズ川が流れる広大な敷地に石造りの校舎が並びます。学生数は4万人規模ですが、生活圏は大学中心にまとまっています。
ビジネスを軸にしつつ他分野も学びたい人、講義を聞くより議論で鍛えられたい人に向いた大学です。
