大学の概要
ウィンザー大学は、カナダ本土最南部の国境都市ウィンザーに立地し、デトロイト川を挟んでアメリカ・デトロイトと向かい合う総合大学です。米ディトロイト・マーシー大学と共同運営する「カナダ・アメリカ・デュアルJDプログラム」は、3年間で両国の法学位を同時取得し米加双方で法曹資格を得られる北米唯一のプログラムで、少人数選抜のため入学は狭き門です。起源は1857年にカトリックのバジリオ会が設立したアシャンプション・カレッジで、1962年に非宗教の州立大学として再編されました。
工学が看板分野で、ステランティス（旧フィアット・クライスラー）と共同運営する自動車研究開発センター（ARDC）を擁し、自動車産業と結びついたコープ（有給就業体験）教育に強みがあります。学生は在学中から実務経験を積み、就職に備えられます。2026年QS世界大学ランキングでは過去最高の546位に上昇し、論文被引用数はカナダの非医学系大学で3位に入りました。医学部を持つ研究大学連合U15には属さず、マクリーンズ誌では「総合（comprehensive）」区分に分類されます。オデット・ビジネススクールや看護学部も擁し、学業や課外活動に応じた入学奨学金（entrance scholarship）が設けられています。
自動車工学やものづくり、あるいは米加双方で通用する法曹を志し、アメリカに隣接する環境で実践的に学びたい人に向く大学です。
