大学の概要

サスカチュワン大学は、カナダで唯一の放射光施設カナディアン・ライト・ソース（シンクロトロン）を構内に持つ研究大学です。この施設は2004年に開設された国家研究施設で、フットボール場ほどの大きさを誇り、材料科学から医学、農業まで幅広い研究を支えています。

大学は1907年、サスカチュワン州の農業経済を支える目的で、アメリカの州立大学モデルを範に設立されました。以来、実学と研究を重んじる校風が受け継がれ、1951年には医学物理学者ハロルド・ジョンズがコバルト60によるがん放射線治療を世界で初めて成功させ、その後の世界のがん治療を大きく変えました。学問面では、カナダの研究集約型15大学グループU15に加盟しています。QS世界大学ランキング2027では411位に位置し、とりわけサステナビリティと被引用数の指標で高い評価を得ています。Maclean's誌でも医学・博士課程カテゴリの一校として扱われています。奨学金については、成績優秀者向けの入学奨学金や大学院研究助成が用意されています。

サスカトゥーンの広大なキャンパスには、西カナダの獣医教育を担うWestern College of Veterinary Medicineや農業・バイオリソース学部、ワクチン・感染症研究機構VIDOが集まります。獣医学や農学、放射光を使う先端研究を志す人にとって、実践的な環境と研究の道が開ける大学です。約200の学術プログラムを通じて、専門職や研究職を目指す学生に適しています。
