大学の概要
1948年にライアソン工科大学として設立され、1993年に正式な大学となり、2022年にトロント・メトロポリタン大学へ改称しました。改称は、校名の由来だったエガートン・ライアソンが先住民の寄宿学校制度に関与した歴史を受けた判断で、大学の立場を示す出来事として広く報じられました。
特徴は実務直結型の教育と起業支援です。学内インキュベーター群「Zone Learning」は学部を横断して学生の事業立ち上げを支え、なかでもDMZは国際的に知られたスタートアップ支援拠点として多くの企業を送り出してきました。ジャーナリズム、映像・写真を扱うイメージアーツ、テッド・ロジャース・スクール・オブ・マネジメントなど、職業に直結する分野に厚みがあり、学部プログラムには実習やプロジェクト型の学びが組み込まれています。
キャンパスはトロントのダウンタウン、ヤング通りとダンダス通りが交わる繁華街に溶け込む形で広がり、金融街やメディア企業が徒歩圏にあるため都市そのものが実習の場になります。留学生向けの入学奨学金は成績だけでなく課外活動やリーダーシップも評価対象になります。選考条件と締切は学部ごとに異なるため、出願前に個別に確かめてください。
