大学の概要
トンプソンリバーズ大学は、2005年に旧University College of the CaribooとBCオープンユニバーシティ（Open Learning Agency）を統合して発足した、ブリティッシュコロンビア州カムループスの公立大学です。この統合で通学課程と通信・オンライン課程を併せ持つ体制となり、Open Learning部門は現在もBC州最大級の通信教育プロバイダーとして550以上のコースと60超のプログラムを提供します。前身のカリブーカレッジは1970年に開学し、段階的に学位授与権を広げてきました。
学術面では5つの学部と複数のスクールを擁し、通学で約140、通信で約60のプログラムを展開します。2011年に設けられた法学部は、カナダで30年以上ぶりに新設されたロースクールとして知られます。評判の面では、Maclean'sの学部教育を中心とする大学部門にランクインしています。ただしU15（研究型15大学連合）には含まれず、規模よりも実学と柔軟な学び方に強みを置く総合大学です。キャンパスはBC州内陸のカムループスにあり、100か国以上から集う3,500人を超える留学生が学ぶ国際色の高さも特徴です。
学びと実務を結ぶコープ（有給就業実習）が各分野に用意され、就職や進路につながる実践機会を得られます。オンライン課程は入学の門戸が比較的広く、奨学金も成績や活動に基づくエントランス奨学金などが留学生に開かれています。フルタイムで通学する道と、働きながらオンラインで学位を目指す道の双方を選べる点で、柔軟な学習環境を求める人に向いた大学です。
