大学の概要
クイーンズ大学（Queen's University）は、1841年にヴィクトリア女王の勅許によってオンタリオ州キングストンに設立された、カナダで最も歴史の古い大学の一つです。1919年にはカナダで初めて商学課程を開設し、これが現在の名門Smith School of Businessの起源となっています。スコットランド長老派の伝統を受け継ぐこの大学は、石灰岩造りの重厚な校舎が並ぶキャンパスと、赤・金・青の校色「Tricolour」に象徴される結束の強い学生文化で知られます。運動部Golden GaelsやHomecomingといった伝統行事は卒業生をも巻き込んで盛り上がり、このschool spiritの強さがクイーンズを他のカナダの大学と分ける最大の個性です。
学術面では、研究集約型の上位大学で構成されるU15の一員として、QS世界大学ランキングでは近年順位を上げて世界200位以内を維持し、カナダ国内でも上位に位置しています。ビジネス教育に定評があるほか、医学・工学・法学の専門教育もそろい、少人数の学びと学部教育を重視する校風が特徴です。成績優秀者向けの入学奨学金や留学生対象の制度が用意されているため、条件や締切を出願前に確認しておくと安心です。
キャンパスはオンタリオ湖畔のキングストンにあり、トロントとモントリオールのほぼ中間に位置する落ち着いた学園都市です。多くの1年生が大学の寮で暮らすため、緊密なコミュニティの中で学生生活を送りたい人、そして強い母校愛と一体感のある環境を求める人に向いています。
