大学の概要

オンタリオ工科大学は、2002年にオンタリオ州議会の法律によって設立された、科学と技術に特化するカナダの公立大学です。旧称はUniversity of Ontario Institute of Technology（UOIT）で、2019年に現在の名称へ改称しました。自動車・エネルギー・原子力・IT分野の実践的なSTEM教育を軸に据える点が、伝統校とは異なるこの大学の性格を形づくっています。

看板となるのが、キャンパス内に構えるAutomotive Centre of Excellence（ACE）です。ACEは5階建ての気候風洞を備えるカナダ初の気候試験研究施設で、企業と研究者、学生が次世代車両の開発・検証を行う拠点となっています。さらにオンタリオ工科大学は、カナダで唯一、原子力工学の学部プログラムを提供する大学でもあり、クリーンエネルギー研究の拠点も持ちます。評判の面では、Maclean's 2025年ランキングの学部中心大学カテゴリで、評判調査部門の全国1位を獲得しました。この順位は2017年の11位から着実に上昇したもので、総合でも全国7位に位置します。設立から日の浅い大学ながら、研究と特定分野での存在感で評価を高めています。

進路面では、全ての工学プログラムにco-op（有給の就業体験）が組み込まれ、350を超える産業パートナーが実践の場を提供します。卒業6か月後の就業率は約89%と報告されています。理学・工学の実務力を、産業界とのつながりの中で鍛えたい人に向く大学です。奨学金は、成績優秀者向けの入学時奨学金などが用意されています。
