大学の概要

マウントセントビンセント大学（MSVU）は、1873年にハリファックスの慈善修道女会が女子教育機関として設立し、1925年にノバスコシア州議会から学位授与権を得て、当時イギリス連邦で唯一の独立系女子カレッジとなった歴史を持ちます。カナダで唯一パブリックリレーションズ（広報）の修士課程を設置する大学であり、応用人間栄養学（カナダ栄養士会認定のディエテティクス課程）や教育学、児童・青少年研究を看板とする点が他大学と一線を画します。1966年に総合大学となり、1967年から男子学生を受け入れ、現在は共学です。遠隔・継続教育の先駆けとしても知られ、1979年に始まった協同教育（コープ）は沿海諸州で最も歴史ある全国認定プログラムとして、在学中の実務経験を就職に結びつけます。奨学金は入学時の成績に基づく給付型を中心に用意されています。ランキングではマクリーンズ誌の「主に学部課程の大学（Primarily Undergraduate）」部門に位置づけられ、U15のような研究総合大学ではなく、少人数・実学志向で評価されます。学生数は約3,800人と小規模で、大西洋岸ノバスコシア州の港町ハリファックスにキャンパスを構えます。栄養士や広報、教育といった専門職を目指し、密度の高い指導と実習を重視する人に向いた大学です。
